Zoya Akhtar is the sister to famous director Farhan Akhtar.Their father JavedAkhtar is a star screenplay writer, who has worked with famous directors like Yash Chopra.


Zoya has started her career as assistant director with Mira Nair’s Kama Sutra: The Tale Of Love. After this movie she has worked as assistant director to FarhanAkhtar for his the movies like Dil Chahta Hai and Don-The Chase Begins.


With Luck By Chance she made her debut as director in Bollywood. She is hoping to become one the notable female director like Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta Present she is busy in script work of Priyanka Chopra and Hrithik Roshan starer Kismat Talkies.

Unlike western countries we have very less female directors in India. Deepa Mehta and Mira Nair are other only women took direction as profession, all the remaining ladies made one or two movies then give up to direction. But now many ladies coming out to direct movies.


Recently Farhan Akhtar‘s sister Zoya Akhtar came with the movie Luck By Chance. Aamir Khan‘s wife Kiran Rao is ready with a script to made her debut as director. She has worked as assistant director for Ashutosh Gowariker for the movies Lagaan and Swades.


Kiran and Zoya must stand as inspiration to other girls who has dream to become directors.

India’s presence on the international movie circuit has grown tenfold.  The Indian movie never had it so good and it’s largely owing to the Indian diaspora.


Mira Nair, based in New York,  is one director who has been there and done that.  She has to her credit movies like Salaam Bombay, Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, Monsoon Wedding and Vanity Fair. The response to the movie adaptation of Jhumpa Lahiri‘s The Namesake was positive across the world.


Deepa Mehta who immigrated to Canada is another example of a thinking director. She has handled controversial issues adeptly. She’s brought to the cinema goers movies like 1947: Earth‘ which was about the Partition; Water about the widows in India and Fire about homosexuality.

Both the ladies have used Bollywood actors as well as international stars like Reese Witherspoon and Naveen Andrews.


On the other hand, M Night Shymalan, who was born in Pondicherry and grew up in Philadelphia, has worked with some of the biggest Hollywood stars like Bruce Willis, Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver. M Night Shyamalan’s movies belong to the supernatural and thriller genres. His movies like The Sixth Sense, Signs and The Village open to an internationaal audience.
